I Am On A Speeding Bullet Train!

The inspiration and all the words for this poem came a few days ago. I quickly scribbled it down and then didn’t have a chance to look at it again till today.  I am continually in awe of surrendering to this creative process and what seems to come out through me because sometimes like in the case of this poem, I look at it and think, “I didn’t write this!”

Some of you, who know me, know my fascination with neuroscience.  What science calls “implicit memories” are constantly at work! We are constantly being triggered in obvious and the most subtle of ways.  Have you ever noticed that you might start out the day completely sane, calm and collected and then moments later, you are exhausted, or tired or angry or just feel out of sorts?  Next time this happens, pay attention! Paying close attention which practising Mindfulness is all about and see what may have been the trigger(s). Perhaps, it was a word or a sentence on the television or radio, an email message from a co-worker, a glance or a look from family, friend or even a stranger. I have found that anything and everything can be a trigger. If we have “stuff” in our lives past and present that we need to deal with, then whatever it is will get try to get our attention in every way possible.

So the teachers, the mirrors appear in every form or formless way possible.  The real indicators for us, our compass or internal alarm is always our emotions. Paying attention to how to we feel in any particular moment can give us clues, allowing us to bring some friendly curiosity, an openness to noticing, and out of that perhaps, when the time is right, an awareness and an understanding of ourselves our pain, our hurts and all our triggers.   Eventually, with tiny movements back to centre, we find ourselves integrating all our disowned parts back to ourselves and over time they no longer need to trigger us, pull us and sway us out of control – because out of our noticing, our embracing with kindness, our understanding, we are healing!

Enjoy this ride…it’s all good!

I am on a speeding Bullet Train
Destination Past and Present
But the driver is lost
Train’s out of control
Where it stops,
No one here quite knows!

No alarms or bells
Sound off as it starts
Shooting out of reality
When things get too stark!

Controls pre-programmed
From days gone by
Many prisoners ride back and forth
No tickets! No fares!
Our lives past and present
Have given us an unlimited season’s pass!
