The Fight In The Car

I wrote this poem at a writing workshop last summer at one of my favorite places…the Omega Institute. My car for me is a safe place for battles …what other battlegrounds do you find yourself in?

Great battles are waged and most often lost.

In this space, there is no grace, mercy or winners, always loss
A spontaneous eruption at any moment may start
Better watch out, innocent bystander, no such chance!
“Why did you”, “How Could You”, “You Crazy Ass”
All famous lines in this great sermon and mass

“You are stupid, and strange and ugly and fat,
You have no sense, no sensor, you are such crass”
You are unbelievable, such a winner; a genius of sorts
But how come your words of wisdom arrive slower then snail post?

There are no auditions, roll calls for the main part in this great play
The one actress leads on in her dance of dismay
The enemy, the victim, the judge are all one
All gathered in her honor to tease and make fun

Will kindness prevail, compassion ever rule in this hostile land?
Well maybe for 2 and ¾ seconds they can
There is no rest, no peace for this marching band

Though lately, there has been a change
The leading lady, the dance, the stories slightly re-arranged
Although the screaming and raging still go on
There is also more knowing, more yielding, then carry on
